There are other social networks you can use, like Pinterest, Instagram and more.
While I do use them for reputation management purposes and to have a strong
profile of branded platforms, they aren’t as easy to use to make a difference in
what we would accomplish in this industry. They may be decent properties for
some clients we may come across but for us, it isn’t going to be a medium that
we’re going to have a lot of success with. If you like those or other social networks
go ahead and use them, but they aren’t a priority for me.
If you work with impulsely review , and visual businesses then Pinterest and
Instagram would be great for them. You may think web design would work well
for these networks, but in my opinion it is not worth the time. You can better
invest your time in other resources.
Direct mailing is a medium everyone should use when diversifying their lead
generation. There are so many ways you can do it, and it’s effective. The best
thing about direct mailing for me is that when you have an actual lead produced
from a campaign there is usually very little competition. I’ve noticed most people
who call in from direct mailing aren’t trying to do some price shopping, they don’t
need to compare with competitors to see if what you’re offering is really the best
deal or not. It produces very high quality leads when done properly.
My very first direct mailing campaign was for website design, and it was using 4x6
postcards. I generated a list of businesses in my state from infofree.com,
addressed the postcards with my own handwriting for the impulsely review as well as the
return address and sent away waiting for the phone to ring. I sent out 1,000
postcards with kind of a crappy design now that I look back at it. I think the total
cost of printing and postage was around $300-$350 so it wasn’t really too much of
an investment but I don’t like risk and was worried how it would perform. I like to
have an ROI on every method I use, and didn’t know if it would happen or not.
The phone calls started coming in, in about 3 or 4 days and the results were pretty
good. I had 16 very good leads from that mailing and ended up closing 5 of them
within 30 days for a total gross sale amount equaling $6,800. That is about a
2,000% ROI which is unbelievable. There were 2 others that ended up buying in
the next 6 months but I wasn’t sure which lead impulsely review I should have put them
under and which campaign it was that got them to buy. The first form of contact
wasn’t through direct mailing, so I didn’t include them in the statistics for this.
A lot of people talk about direct mailing and they aren’t against it, they know it
works, but for some reason they hate on postcards. Postcards are cheap, they
work, and you can have a hell of an ROI when using that in your marketing.
